Art Deco 20kt Egyptian Faience Scarab Ring

SKU: 34842

During the 19th century the discoveries of ancient archaeological finds influenced and brought on what is referred to as “archaeological revival jewelry”. The initial Egyptian Revival period flourished from the 1820's and was inspired by ancient Egyptian imagery such as the scarab beetle.

A fabulous Egyptian faience scarab ring from the Art Deco (ca1920) era! This beautiful piece, which we think is of Chinese origin, is made of vibrant 20kt yellow gold and displays a fantastic Egyptian faience scarab beetle at the front. The scarab is most likely much older than the setting but wasn't incorporated into the ring until the Deco era. The beetle has wonderful hand carved details and stunning pale blue color which looks beautiful against the vibrant yellow gold. A gold pin spears the scarab and fastens it to the gold frame and the gorgeous mounting has a lovely rope design accenting the beetle. The beetle in its gold setting swivels slightly forwards and backwards and the underside of the scarab reveals a fantastic carving. The shank is stamped with 3 hallmarks, which appear to be of Chinese origin. This wonderful and rare piece would make a lovely addition to any collection!

Measurements: The ring has a finger size of 7 but it could easily be resized. The scarab beetle measures approximately 5/8" tall, 1/2" wide and has a depth of 1/4".

Condition: The overall condition of the ring is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold setting or to the enameling.
