The opposite of a cameo, an intaglio is created by carving below the surface to produce an image in relief with the purpose of pressing into sealing wax.
A stunning intaglio signet ring from the Victorian (ca1880) era! This signet ring has an oval shaped carnelian stone with an image carved into the center. The carved image is a very detailed portrait of a man's profile, which is bezel set in a 14kt rose gold mounting. The mounting and the band of the ring is a vibrant simple, smooth gold. The intaglio has a closed back and the carnelian stone is a rich, deep burnt orange color. This fabulous ring would make a beautiful addition to any collection!
Measurements: The intaglio measures 5/8" wide and 3/4" tall. The ring has a finger size of a generous size 7 but could easily be resized.
Condition: The overall condition of the ring is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold mounting and only minor surface wear to the carnelian intaglio.
