Victorian Sterling Silver Dog Whistle Fob
A fob is an adornment or a seal that hangs from the ribbon or chain of a pocket watch. Its purpose is to decorate or add weight to the watch chain itself, making it easier for the watch to be withdrawn from a pocket. The fob would have been used to seal the wax of a letter or note.
A lovely dog whistle fob/pendant from the Victorian (ca1880) era! Made of sterling silver, this unusual piece forms the shape of a dog's head and neck which carries into a whistle mouthpiece. The design is beautifully detailed, with etching to highlight its textured fur, facial features and strong eyes. The piece is hollow and very lightweight and the whistle is fully functioning. The fob/pendant hangs from a simple sterling bail that is attached to the collar of the dog. It would look marvelous worn on a silver chain and would be a perfect piece for any fob collector or hunting enthusiast!
Measurements: The fob measures 1 5/8" long and 3/8" wide.
Condition: The overall condition of the fob is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage or dings to the silver and the whistle is functioning.
