A wonderful gold thimble and basket holder set from the Victorian (ca1880) era! This lovely two piece set is in excellent condition and has a beautiful design. The thimble is made of 12kt yellow gold and has a gorgeous scrolled pattern of swirls engraved along the outside of the rim. The body of the thimble is detailed with dozens of indented dots to catch the point of a needle when sewing, keeping the fingertip protected. Stamped on the outside is the number "8". The piece is fully functional as a thimble and is beautifully designed.
Accompanying the gold thimble is a charming holder in the shape of a miniature basket! The basket is hand woven and has an earthy tan color accented with olive green stripes. The thimble fits perfectly inside, and a matching woven lid completes the ensemble. The delicate craftsmanship and attention to detail is simply superb in this Victorian piece. Perfect for any sewing enthusiast, this lovely thimble set would make a special addition to any collection!
Measurements: The thimble is of standard size and measures 7/8" tall, is 5/8" wide at the opening, and slightly less than 1/4" wide at the tip. The woven basket (including the lid) measures approximately 1 1/8" tall, has a diameter of 1" at the lid, and slightly less than 3/4" at the bottom.
Condition: The overall condition of the thimble and basket is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage or dings to the gold thimble. The woven basket shows some signs of surface wear including a few small frays, but is otherwise in excellent condition, particularly considering its age.
