ALTAMIRANO/AGUILAR Vintage Sterling Silver Armadillo Belt/Necklace

SKU: AB1001

$2,500

The fabulous "Armadillo" motif was designed by Valetin Vidaurreta for Hector Aguilar and permission to produce it was given to silversmith Manuel Altamirano. The beautiful and bold design became very well known and Altamirano made numerous pieces which carried the motif including bracelets, necklaces and earrings. The belt is a more unusual find.

From the 1950's, this beautiful, flowing Vintage piece is made of sterling silver and comprised of 40 round links that connect together by a simple pin hinge. All of the links are the same size, except for the belt buckle which is larger and has a square shaped body. The last link has a sterling hook and the back is stamped "M Altamirano", "TAXCO", "MEXICO" and "925". Originally, made to be worn as a belt, the piece could also double as a long, bold necklace and looks absolutely stunning worn either way.

Measurements: The entire length of the belt is 30". The links measure approximately 1" tall and 7/8" wide and the buckle measures 1 1/2" tall and 1 5/8" wide.

Condition: The overall condition of the belt is excellent. Besides normal surface wear and a few small dings, there is no serious damage to the sterling silver links and the clasp is secure and in good working condition.
