Victorian English Sterling Book Chain & Locket Necklace
A beautiful sterling chain and locket from the Victorian (ca1880) era! This fabulous piece is comprised of an ornate sterling locket which hangs from a long sterling book chain. The book chain consists of 16 decorative links that connect together with large sterling rings to form a gorgeous chain. The oval shaped locket displays an intricate design that showcases two beautiful engraved flowers, each framed by a scalloped border. It opens to reveal 2 places for your favorite photographs and hangs from a complimentary fluted bail, which connects to the spring ring at the center of the beautiful Victorian chain. The back of the locket is stamped with three English hallmarks and the initials "J.C."; there is also another small hallmark found on the front of the bail. The piece is a wonderful example of Victorian artistry and would make a very special addition to any collection!
Measurements: The sterling chain measures approximately 19" in length, 1/2” at the widest point and 1/4" thick. The locket hangs approximately 2 3/8" long, is 1 3/8" wide and slightly less than 1/2" thick.
Condition: The overall condition of the chain and locket is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no serious damage to the sterling and the attached spring rings are secure and in good working condition. The locket opens easily and fastens shut securely. There is some normal wear on the surface of the silver, which is not uncommon for a Victorian piece.
