A fabulous sterling locket from the Victorian (ca1880) era! This gorgeous oval shaped sterling locket is ornately detailed with a fantastic design of Etruscan wirework and beadwork. In the center of the piece is a raised convex oval shape that has a etched surface. The outside of the locket is surrounded by a silver ball border and the front and back face has a border of stamped star shapes. At the top of locket is a nice sized fluted bail which is perfect for hanging from a heavy Victorian chain. The back of the locket has a simple smooth surface interior with the stamped star border and the inside opens to reveal a space for your favorite photograph. The locket has several English hallmarks including the letter "L", an anchor, a lion and the letters "BJD". The bail is also hallmarked. This locket is particularly large in size and a beautiful example of Victorian artistry. It would make a great addition to any collection!
Measurements: The locket hangs approximately 2 3/8" long, 1 3/8" wide and 1/2" at the thickest point.
Condition: The overall condition of the locket is excellent. There is no serious damage to the silver, Etruscan wirework design, or to the oval shape in the center. There is some normal surface wear and some dings to the silver on the back of the locket which is not unusual for a Victorian piece. The locket closes easily and securely.
