Product Details

Shakudo is the use of mixed metal alloys and was originally used in Japanese armor and swords. Artisans would sometimes remove the Shakudo plaques from the armor and incorporate it into jewelry or art. It has become very collectible and quite unusual.

These incredible Shakudo cufflinks from the Victorian (ca1880) era are a wonderful example of the Shakudo art! Each cufflink is comprised of a large Shakudo plaque which is held within a 14kt yellow gold bezel setting. The intricate raised design on each plaque depicts a majestic gold bird with outstretched wings and flowing feathers. A single tree with clusters of mixed metals flowers in bloom completes the beautiful design. On the back of each plaque is a smooth yellow gold setting with a hinged airplane bar stamped "585" along with a small maker's mark. These stunning cufflinks have extraordinary craftsmanship and would look wonderful worn by a man or woman.

Measurements: Each Shakudo plaque measures approximately 1" on each side and 1/8" thick.

Condition: The overall condition of the cufflinks is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to either Shakudo plaque or to the gold setting.
