Elephant hair jewelry originated thousands of years ago as part of ancient African mythology. Elephants, known for their massive size and magnificent presence, were believed to be the only connection between the Earth and the Heavens. The tribesmen incorporated elephant hairs into their jewelry to bring them love, keep them strong and safe from harm, and ward off potential sickness. Elephants naturally and continuously shed the thick hairs from their tails, which are then collected and used to create wearable pieces of art. This African tradition is still continued in the present day, without posing any harm to the revered animals. However, fine Vintage and antique pieces of elephant hair jewelry are especially rare and very collectable!
