Victorian 14kt Gold Bohemian Garnet Hanging Earrings
Bohemian garnet jewelry dates back to the 19th century. During this time, garnets were one of the most popular types of stones used in jewelry production. The garnets were often placed close together in an effort to produce a more pronounced color and brightness than when they were set singularly. Most often, bohemian garnet jewelry was set in a closed back setting made of rose gold gilt over silver; this method is sometimes referred to as 'garnet gold'.
A pair of gorgeous fiery red Bohemian garnet earrings from the Victorian (ca1880) era! Hanging from a modern 14kt yellow gold wire is a large flower of hand faceted garnets. Inside this flower is a single faceted tear-drop shaped garnet which is surrounded by a circle of smaller faceted garnets. Hanging from the garnet flower are 3 dangling tear-drop shapes with the same complimenting pattern as the inside of the flower, a larger stone surrounded by smaller bohemian garnets. All of the garnets are set in a closed back rose gold gilt over silver setting. These bohemian garnet earrings are simply exceptional, and would make a wonderful addition to any collection!
Measurements: Each earring hangs approximately 1 3/4" long from the top of the gold ear wire to the bottom of the longest tear drop and measure approximately 1 3/4" at their widest point.
Condition: The overall condition of the earrings is excellent. There is no apparent damage to any of the bohemian garnets or to the 14kt gold earring wires.
