Now a banned material, Antique tortoise shell jewelry has become very collectable. These hanging ball tortoise earrings are particularly wonderful and from the Victorian (ca1880) era! Each begins with a tortoise shell bead topper, which is attached to a 10kt yellow gold screwback, suitable for either pierced or unpierced ears. Attached to the topper is a tortoise ring which attaches to two carved tortoise shell chains. One chain is slightly longer than the other, giving the earrings an interesting asymmetrical look and at the bottom of each is a tortoise shell ball, one slightly larger than the other. The tortoise shell has wonderful hues of deep brown with subtle hues of caramel and amber which can be seen throughout each earring. They are lightweight and look simply beautiful when worn. Both collectible and fashionable, these lovely earrings would make a fabulous addition to any collection!
Measurements: Each earring hangs approximately 3" long. The smaller tortoise shell ball measures 14mm and the larger measures 16mm.
Condition: The overall condition of the earrings is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the tortoise shell and the gold screw backs are secure and in good working condition.
