Victorian Gold Plated Bohemian Garnet Earrings
Bohemian garnet jewelry dates back to the 19th century. During this time, garnets were one of the most popular types of stones used in jewelry production. The garnets were often placed close together in an effort to produce a more pronounced color and brightness than when they were set singularly. Most often, bohemian garnet jewelry was set in a closed back setting made of rose gold gilt over silver; this method is sometimes referred to as 'garnet gold'.
A pair of gorgeous fiery red Bohemian garnet earrings from the Victorian (ca1880) era! With an unusual design, each earring has a flat hoop shape which is encrusted with hand faceted garnets on the front and back. Three larger garnets line the center of the design on both sides and are surrounded by several smaller stones. The earrings are hinged at the bottom and have a clasped earring wire at the top. The garnets have a vibrant red color and are set in a closed back yellow gold gilt over silver setting. These bohemian garnet earrings are simply exceptional, and would make a wonderful addition to any collection!
Measurement: Each earring hangs approximately 7/8" long, a little less than 3/8" at the widest point and has a depth of 3/4".
Condition: The overall condition of the earrings is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the bohemian garnets, gilt setting or to the clasped earring wires or hinges.
