Victorian 14kt & Carved Sardonyx Intaglio Seal Fob

SKU: 36205

A fob is an adornment or a seal that hangs from the ribbon or chain of a pocket watch. Its purpose is to decorate or add weight to the watch chain itself, making it easier for the watch to be withdrawn from a pocket. The fob would have been used to seal the wax of a letter or note.

A wonderful gold fob from the Victorian (ca1880) era! Made of 14kt yellow gold, this unusual cone shaped fob has a very decorative and ornate design. The body of the fob has a textured gold surface accented by twisted rope lines that go around the entire shape. Decorating the upper surface of the fob is a row of delicate gold clovers suspended above row of open crescents below. The base of the fob features a round, black sardonyx stone in a bezel setting. The sardonyx has an intricately carved intaglio image depicting the face of a Roman or Grecian man in profile. At the top of the fob is a simple yellow gold jump ring for hanging. The piece has a wonderful Victorian look and is the perfect size to wear on a gold chain, or attach to a charm bracelet or necklace. Both simple and attractive, it is a must for any fob collector and would make a fabulous addition to any jewelry collection!

Measurements: The fob hangs 1" long and measures 3/4" wide and thick at the largest point.

Condition: The overall condition of the piece is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold setting or carved intaglio, which is intact. The gold jump ring is intact and in good condition.
