Victorian 14kt & Platinum Carnelian Intaglio Spinner Fob

SKU: 36699
A fob is an adornment or a seal that hangs from the ribbon or chain of a pocket watch. Its purpose is to decorate or add weight to the watch chain itself making it easier for the watch to be withdrawn from a pocket. A spinner or swivel fob has two or more plaques which can be turned or swiveled within a moveable bracket. This allows the wearer a choice as to which face is displayed prominently!

An exquisite and unusual spinner fob from the Victorian (ca1880) era! Oval in shape and set in 14kt rose gold, the fob hangs sideways from a gorgeous spinner hinge. The double-sided spinner features a large carnelian plaque in the center, which is smooth on one side and carved with an intricate intaglio image on the other. The carved image shows the faces of two Greek or Roman figures in profile, complete with delicate facial features, curled tendrils of hair, flowered headpieces, and a post dividing the center with ivy trailing around it. A beautiful textured border surrounds the intaglio and a decorative swirled topper holds the plaque in place. One side of the piece shows platinum accents decorating the surface, while the opposite side is solid rose gold. Attached at the top of the piece is a gold "O" ring which is perfect for hanging from your favorite chain. A spectacular piece, it is perfect for any fob collector and would look incredible worn daily or for special occasions!

Measurements: Laying flat, the spinner fob measures approximately 1 3/4" long from top to bottom, is 1 5/8" wide, and 1/4" thick. The intaglio plaque is 1 1/8" wide and 3/4" tall.

Condition: The overall condition of the piece is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold and platinum setting, and the carnelian intaglio is in fine condition, with no apparent chips. The spinning swivel moves easily and smoothly, and the "O" ring is secure and in good condition.
