fob is an adornment or a seal that hangs from the ribbon or chain of a pocket watch. Its purpose is to decorate or add weight to the watch chain itself making it easier for the watch to be withdrawn from a pocket. The fob would have been used to seal the wax of a letter or note.

A fantastic and unusual gold fob from the Victorian (ca1880) era! This gorgeous piece is made of 15kt yellow gold and is detailed with a wonderful curled 6-prong design and a carnelian seal. The fob, which is particularly large in size, is open in the center and on the sides. The base of the fob surrounding the carnelian seal has a simple engraved design, which carries around the entire piece and the gold arms rest atop a pale orange, rectangular shaped carnelian stone, which is hand carved with initials. This wonderful fob hangs from a simple gold ring which is perfect for hanging from a long gold chain. It's a very special piece and would make a perfect addition to any collection!

Measurements: The fob hangs a little less than 1 1/4" long, is 7/8" at its widest point. The carnelian stone measures approximately 7/8" long and 5/8" wide.

Condition: The overall condition of the fob is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold setting or to the carnelian stone.
