Victorian 15kt Multi Agate 7 Day Fob Necklace

SKU: 34041

A fob is an adornment or a seal that hangs from the ribbon or chain of a pocket watch. Its purpose is to decorate or add weight to the watch chain itself making it easier for the watch to be withdrawn from a pocket. The fob would have been used to seal the wax of a letter or note.

An absolutely fantastic gold fob necklace from the Victorian (ca1880) era! This gorgeous piece is comprised of a striking gold fob, made of 15kt yellow gold which hangs from a long, gold-filled chain. The fob has a very unusual and interesting design which resembles that of a ships steering wheel. At the center is a round base that has a flowing etched design that can be found on the surface of both sides. Seven trumpeted arms sprout out of the center, each holding a banded agate plaque at the tip. Hand carved into each agate plaque is a day of the week. The agate stones vary in color, with banded agate, moss agate, carnelian and amethyst. The fob hangs from a long, 3-strand gold filled chain. Used to mark the 7 days of the week, this wonderful fob is very unusual and collectable. It's a very special piece and would make a stunning addition to any collection!

Measurements: The fob measures approximately 2 1/8" wide and tall and has a depth of 5/8". The chain measures 33.5" in length.

Condition: The overall condition of the fob is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold figure or to the chain and all of the agate stones are intact. The clasp is secure and in good working condition.
