Victorian Mother of Pearl Horse & Horseshoe Fob/Pendant
A wonderful Mother of Pearl fob/pendant from the Victorian (ca1880) era! This beautiful piece is comprised of two solid pieces of mother of pearl, which are hand carved to depict a horse's head and a large, lucky horseshoe. The Mother of Pearl has rich, iridescent cream color with a shimmery, high luster surface. The horse head and horseshoe are detailed with gold-filled findings to depict 7 horseshoe nails (always 7 for good luck!) and the horse's bridle and eye covers. Resting in the center of the open horseshoe is an eye-catching propeller design which is possibly a tip of horse bit. The gold filled accents are riveted securely in place and add wonderful detail, creating a 3-dimensional look. The piece hangs from a decorative gold filled swivel watch hook, which is perfect for attaching to a long chain. This stunning equestrian-inspired piece would look fabulous worn on a long chain or cord, and is perfect for the horsey lover's collection!
Measurements: The entire piece hangs approximately 4 3/4" long, is 1 5/8" at its widest point and 1/2" at its thickest point.
Condition: The overall condition of the pendant is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the carved Mother of Pearl pieces or to the gold filled findings. The swivel watch hook is secure and in good working condition.
