An exquisite gold padlock locket from the Victorian (ca1880) era! This beautiful piece is made of vibrant 18kt yellow gold and forms the shape of a large padlock with an ornate design. Resting on the front surface are three garnet cabochon stones, which are surrounded by a gorgeous swirled gold border. The bail is represented by a gold snake, whose body twists to form a looped handle, its head resting at the center of the locket. Two sparkling diamonds depict the snake's eyes, adding a beautiful touch. The snake handle also serves as a hinged clasp, which lifts up and allows the locket to open, revealing an open space inside. The interior of the locket holds a hinged heart-shaped frame for storing a special photograph. Stamped on the tongue of the clasp are two small hallmarks. This magnificent Victorian piece would look fantastic worn on a gold chain and would make a fabulous addition to any collection!
Measurements: The locket hangs 2 3/8" long, measures 1 1/2" wide, and is 3/4" thick. The overall pennyweight of the piece is 29.4 dwt.
Condition: The overall condition of the locket is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold setting or any of the garnet and diamond stones, all of which are intact. The clasped bail is in good working condition, and the locket opens and closes easily and securely.
