An absolutely magnificent 15kt gold and onyx locket/pendant from the Victorian (ca1880) era! This gorgeous and unusual piece is made of solid onyx and is carved into the shape of a shield-like plaque. On the front of the piece is an extravagant design comprised of 15kt rose gold and 6 old Mine Cut diamonds. A line of gold wirework lies across the top, center portion of the piece where floral, scrolled and beadwork details also rest. Hanging from this fabulous design are 5 individual thin gold bars that swing freely. Four of the bars have a single Mine Cut diamond set at the end and the center, longest bar has 2 diamonds, one set at the end and one set in the center. The total diamond weight of the piece is approximately .60ct tw. Riveted into the top of the onyx plaque is a 15kt gold bail that is detailed with a simple black enameled design. The onyx shield has a gold framed glass locket on the back which is a perfect place for your favorite photograph. It's a magnificent and unusual piece from the Victorian era and would make a great addition to any collection!
Measurements: The locket measures approximately 2 1/4" tall, 1 1/4" wide and 3/8" thick. The gold and enamel bail at the top has interior measurements of 3/8" tall and a little more than 1/4" wide.
Condition: The overall condition is excellent. Amazingly, there are no apparent chips in the onyx and all of the diamonds are intact. There is no apparent damage to any of the gold wirework or beadwork nor is there any damage to the enameled bail. The gold frame on the back of the locket closes easily and securely.
