An absolutely incredible micro mosaic pin/locket from the Victorian (ca1880) era! The beautiful piece is made of vibrant 18kt yellow gold and an exceptional micro mosaic picture details the front. Tiny tiles with vivid colors of glass have been hand set into the ornate image of three birds. The birds are beautifully detailed and rest on several flower vines, with a background of bright blue tiles. The image is framed by a double twisted wirework frame which is then surrounded by a triangular patterned border. The border is red, white and blue and and small stars rest on all for sides. On the back of the locket is a glass covered locket face which has a curl of hair inside. Also on the back is a secure pin clasp and large fluted bail rests at the top. The mosaic image is so fine, it almost looks like a painting! It's a fantastic micro mosaic piece and would make a perfect addition to any collection!
Measurements: The micro mosaic pin/pendant hangs 2" long, is a little less than 1 1/4" at the widest point, and has a depth of a little more than 1/4".
Condition: The overall condition of the pin/pendant is excellent. Amazingly there are no apparent chips or cracks in the mosaic. There are some surface scratches in the gold on the back of the pendant which is normal for a piece of this age.The pin clasp and locket face is secure and in good working condition.
