Victorian Tortoise Shell Bead Necklace 40" length
Now a banned material, Antique tortoise shell jewelry has become very collectable. This gorgeous tortoise shell necklace from the Late Victorian era (ca1900) is particularly beautiful! The unusual piece is particularly long in length and comprised of 91 tortoise shell beads, all strung on hand knotted string. The tortoise shell displays a rich, caramel brown color and has wonderful hues of light burnt red and amber that can be seen throughout each bead. At the back is a gold filled clasp which allows you to easily double the length if desired. The necklace has a bold look and is wonderfully lightweight. Condition: The overall condition of the necklace is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there are no apparent chips in the tortoise shell beads, all of which are intact and the necklace is securely strung. The clasp is secure and in good working condition.
