A lovely French necklace from the Victorian (ca1866) era! This beautiful piece, which is made of 18kt rosy yellow gold, depicts an ornate padlock charm pendant. The face of the piece has a gorgeous scrolled etched design covering the entire front surface as well as the edges and corners of the back. Accenting the etching is black tracery which can be found on both sides. The large charm has been attached to a modern gold chain which clasps in the back. On the front of the pendant is a keyhole shaped piece which is hinged in place. When the top of the piece is pushed to the right, the padlock clasp can be opened, and refastened by pushing it back down into place. The top of the padlock is stamped "PAT DEC. 18" and the year "1866." It’s a beautiful piece and would make a wonderful addition to any collection!
Measurements: The chain measures 17" long and the charm pendant measures approximately 7/8" wide, hangs 1 5/8" long and is 3/16" thick.
Condition: The overall condition of the pendant and chain is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no serious damage to the gold padlock pendant or chain and the clasp and hinge are secure and in excellent working condition. There is some normal wear to the black tracery however this doesn't take away from the beauty of the piece.
