Victorian Carved Lava Bead Wrap Necklace 30"
A unique and very unusual lava wrap necklace from the Victorian (ca1880) era! This interesting piece is comprised of strands of hand carved beads, all made from different colors of natural lava. The lava has wonderful hues of sage green, clay red, beige, taupe, white and black. The necklace has 15 sections with 3 strands of beads that are separated by a single round bead with a carved geometric design on its surface. At each end, the piece is finished with a round bead followed by 3 loops to complete the beaded strands. The beads have an interesting and chunky pebble-like design which is commonly seen on carved coral beads. The entire piece is hand strung on simple white thread. Rather than fastening together with a clasp, the piece is a wrap design that can be overlapped stylishly in the front as pictured or worn open and loose if desired. The necklace is of Italian descent and would make an absolutely fabulous addition to any collection!
Measurements: The necklace measures 30" long when fully extended. The smaller lava beads measure approximately 1/8" thick and 1/4" long. The round carved beads have a diameter of approximately 3/8".
Condition: The overall condition of the necklace is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to any of the lava beads, which are all intact and securely strung.
