Victorian Gold Filled & Bohemian Garnet Horseshoe Necklace

SKU: 36198

Bohemian garnet jewelry dates back to the 19th century. During this time, garnets were one of the most popular types of stones used in jewelry production. The garnets were often placed close together in an effort to produce a more pronounced color and brightness than when they were set singularly. Most often, bohemian garnet jewelry was set in a closed back setting made of rose gold gilt over silver; this method is sometimes referred to as 'garnet gold'.

An absolutely gorgeous bohemian garnet horseshoe necklace from the Victorian (ca1880) era! Most likely originally worn as a pin, this beautiful horseshoe has since been converted to be worn as a striking necklace. The unique design features a traditional horseshoe with a jockey cap resting in the center. The entire front surface of the piece is encrusted with rows of vibrant garnets, which vary in size and are all beautifully faceted. The garnets have lush hues of deep reds which look fiery red when they catch the light. The back of the piece reveals a traditional "garnet gold" setting and two overlapping bars that hold the jockey hat in place. A modern, gold-filled chain attaches to the tips of the horseshoe and fastens together with a simple spring clasp at the back. A real beauty, this stunning piece looks fabulous when worn, and would be perfect for the equestrian enthusiast or lover of garnets!

Measurements: The horseshoe pendant measures 1 1/4" tall, is 1 1/8" wide and has a depth of 1/2" at its thickest point. The entire piece measures approximately 24.5" long.

Condition: The overall condition of the horseshoe necklace is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the setting or gold-filled chain or to the bohemian garnet stones, all of which are intact. The clasp is secure and in good working condition.
