An incredibly beautiful and rare micro mosaic necklace from the Victorian (ca1880) era! This exceptional micro mosaic piece is of Italian origin and has a wonderful festoon-style design. The necklace is comprised of a variety of exceptional micro mosaic links, including thin, rectangular panels that form the base and hanging links that dangle below. Tiny glass tiles with a vivid array of colors have been hand set into each of the ornate links to create a detailed image. The mosaic image is so fine, it almost looks like a painting! A delicate flower and star motif is featured throughout, and twisted gold wirework accents surround and separate the mosaic pieces, adding depth to the piece. The hanging festoon links are graduated, with the largest in the center and the smallest links at the sides. The back of the necklace is formed by a section of chain, which fastens together at a decorative toggle clasp. The center links are both stamped "800" on the back. When worn, the piece has a very elegant look and lovely placement. An outstanding necklace, it is an exquisite example of fine micro mosaic jewelry, and it would make an exceptional addition to any collection!
Measurements: The entire length of the necklace measures 15.5". The largest center link hangs 1 3/8" long, is 3/4" wide, and 3/16" thick. Each of the panel links measures 1" long.
Condition: The overall condition of the necklace is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the silver gilt setting or any of the micro mosaic links, all of which are intact. The toggle clasp fastens securely and is in good condition.
