An incredible sapphire and diamond pendant from the Victorian (ca1880) era! This fabulous piece is made of 15kt yellow gold (indicating English origin) and has a brilliant multi stone design on the front surface. The pendant is round and substantial in size, with a raised center that displays a decorative maltese cross. At the center of the cross is a large faceted sapphire stone, which has a gorgeous periwinkle blue color and is held within a scalloped 8-prong setting. An overlapping Medieval-inspired design forms the shape of the maltese cross, which is lined with bold, black enamel and encrusted with sparkling Old Mine cut diamonds. A square rests in between each corner of the cross, adding a decorative accent with a diamond center. The back of the piece has a hollow center, making the pendant lightweight and comfortable to wear. At the top of the pendant is a simple gold bail, allowing it to be easily hung and worn on a chain. An outstanding and fashionable piece, it has a wonderful look and is stunning when worn. It is perfect for the Victorian jewelry collector or fashion-forward woman!
Measurement: The pendant hangs 2 1/8" long, has a 1 3/4" diameter, and is 1/2" thick.
Condition: The overall condition of the pendant is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold setting or enamel work. The sapphire and diamond stones are all intact, and the bail is secure and in good working condition.
