A slide is an adornment that hangs from a longer chain to control the length and position of a pendant. It was common for women to wear a hunting case watch on a long necklace chain. The slide would have been used to achieve the desired length for the chain and keep the watch from twisting.
A elegant gold cameo slide from the Victorian (ca1880) era! This lovely slide is made of 18kt yellow gold and the beautiful hardstone face of a young woman graces the center of this piece. Highly detailed, the woman is wearing what appears to be leaves and flowers in her hair with small tendrils peeking down. A dress is draped across her bust and shoulders and a soft expression can be seen in her face. Lovely black tracery designs surround and accent the cameo and the back features a smooth shape that corresponds with the overall design of the slide, surrounded by etched texture. The top and bottom of the slide include two holes to attach any desired chain. It's a magnificent piece and would make a wonderful addition to any collection!
Measurements: The slide measures approximately 1" long, is 3/4" at the widest point and 1/2" thick.
Condition: The overall condition of the piece is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold setting or to the hardstone cameo.
