Victorian 14kt Onyx & Micro Mosaic Dog Pin/Pendant
An absolutely exquisite Victorian (ca1880) micro mosaic pin/pendant with a beautiful dog motif. This very large piece is made of a single oval shaped plaque of onyx which is set in an ornate 14kt yellow gold setting. With its fantastically detailed border, the plaque is framed with ornate prongs and twisted wirework. In the center of the onyx oval is a very fine micro mosaic image of a royal looking Cavalier King Charles Spaniel dog that is resting in a bed of grass. The color and detail of the mosaic is simply marvelous with textured brown and white fur and an intricately detailed face. On the back of the piece are a pin clasp and a wide bail which gives you the ability to wear the piece as a pin or pendant. It's a particularly fantastic mico mosaic and a beautiful example of Italian Victorian artistry!
Measurements: The pin/pendant measures a little more than 1 1/2" tall at the tallest point, 1 7/8" at the widest point and 1/4" thick.
Condition: The overall condition of the pin/pendant is excellent. There is no apparent damage to the onyx plaque or to the gold setting and the clasp and bail are secure and in good working condition. Amazingly, the mosaic appears to me to be in almost perfect condition which is remarkable for a piece from this era.
