An incredible rock quartz crystal pendant from the Victorian (ca1880) era! This wonderful piece is made of a large, oval-shaped plaque of rock quartz crystal, which hangs from a 14kt yellow gold bail. The crystal is beautifully faceted along the sides and on the back, which is convex and riveted into the center is a delicate spider made of yellow gold. The spider's body is portrayed by an oval shaped, sapphire stone within a gold bezel setting and the head of the spider is an old Rose Cut diamond. Four legs emerge from each side of the spider's body, represented by 8 thin yellow gold wires. The back of the pendant reveals a gold point at the end of the rivet that runs through the center of the crystal, holding the spider in place. The piece hangs from a gold bail which attaches to a topper that has been riveted into the top of the crystal. A truly magnificent piece, it looks stunning when worn and would make a fabulous addition to any collection!
Measurements: The pendant hangs 2 3/8" long, is 1 3/8" across, and 3/4" at its thickest point.
Condition: The overall condition of the pendant is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the rock crystal plaque, gold bail, or to the spider. The sapphire and diamond stones are fully intact and there is no damage to the gold setting or wire legs.
