Victorian 10kt Carnelian Intaglio Family Crest Signet Ring

SKU: 33397

$1,295
A signet ring can be represented with an intaglio, which is created by carving below the surface of a stone or by a simple smooth seal. Its purpose would have been to seal the wax of a letter or note.

This gorgeous signet ring is absolutely exceptional! From the Victorian (ca1880) period, the ring is made of 10kt yellow gold and holds a large, oval-shaped carnelian stone with an intaglio carved into the center. The hand-carved image portrays a highly detailed family crest, including a shield surrounded by scrolled ribbon, leaves, and wings. The carnelian stone has a wonderful, rich orange color which compliments the yellow gold setting beautifully. The underside of the carnelian is also carved with a separate intaglio image of a woman resting against an open circle engraved with the initial "R". It's a remarkable ring with wonderful artistry and would make a stunning addition to any collection!

Measurements: The carnelian intaglio and gold bezel setting measures 1" tall, 3/4" wide and the ring rests 1/4" atop your finger when worn. The ring is a size 6.25 but could easily be re-sized.

Condition: The overall condition of the ring is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold setting or to the carnelian intaglio.
