Victorian 14kt Gold & Gold Quartz Ring

SKU: 34876

Gold-in-quartz was formed while the earth was still in its molten state. During the cooling and solidification process, veins of gold became trapped with the crystals of quartz in the mine. This created a very dramatic contrast between the white quartz and the yellow of the gold. Jewelry made from gold quartz became quite a fashion statement of the 1880's. During the Gold Rush era in the American West, most of the gold quartz was mined in California around the San Francisco area.

A wonderful gold quartz ring from the Victorian (ca1880) era! This fabulous ring is made of 14kt yellow gold and features an attractive ridged gold border at the top and bottom of the mounting. At the center of the ring is a rectangular gold quartz stone in a closed back bezel setting. The gold quartz has a pale grey color with marbled gold flecks that stand out dramatically against the light background. At each shoulder of the ring is a decorative pillar-like design, adding an interesting visual element to the otherwise smooth band. The yellow gold band and mounting enhance the gold flecks in the stone, bringing them to life. It's a simple yet beautiful ring that would look wonderful worn by a woman or man!

Measurements: The ring has a large finger size of 9.5 but could be re-sized if desired. The gold quartz stone in its setting measures 3/4" tall and 9/16" wide.

Condition: The overall condition of the ring is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the yellow gold setting or to the gold quartz stone, which is intact.
