A fantastic and very unusual gold chain from the Victorian (ca1880) era! This unique handmade piece is comprised of a wide braided link chain, which forms a flexible snake-like necklace made of 10kt yellow gold. The chain has two different weights with a slightly lighter and thinner chain at the back and a thicker chain at the front. Interspersed and incorporated into the fabulous design of the chain are several ornate links including a double sided horse head, a snake head and 3 clenched hands which are each wearing gloves detailed with a bearded gentleman wearing a turban at the wrists. Two different clasps can be found within the chain at at the center is an interesting enameled ball which also acts as a secure bail where you could attach a complimentary pendant or locket. This stylish and unique piece could make a statement worn on its own, or could be paired with other chunky gold chains for a fashionable layered look. A simply gorgeous piece, it would make a fabulous addition to any collection!
Measurements: The chain measures 18.5" long from end to end and is 1/2" at the widest part.
Condition: The overall condition of the chain is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold chain or links and the clasps fasten securely and are in good working condition.
