An absolutely stunning and important Victorian necklace from the Victorian (ca1880) era. The necklace is comprised of 49 black onyx beads which are strung on a 14kt yellow gold chain. The beads are solid black in color and round in shape. At the center of the necklace are 22 tear drop shaped onyx stones which rest between each round bead and also hang from the chain. The 22 onyx tear drops, which graduate in length, are shorter towards the ends and longer in the center. The necklace is completed at the end with a single gold bead clasp that is secured within an oval onyx bead. It's a simply marvelous necklace that would be great piece worn for a special occasion!
Measurements: The necklace measures approximately 18" long. The round onyx beads have a diameter of 1.7mm each. The tear drop shaped onyx pieces range in size from 3/4" long and 1/4" at the widest point being the smallest to 1 1/2" long and a little more than 1/4" at the widest point being the largest.
Condition: The overall condition of the necklace is excellent. There is no apparent damage to the round onyx beads. There are a few very minor chips at the tips of the tear drop onyx beads however they are unnoticeable when worn. The clasp is secure and in good working condition.
