An absolutely stunning and important Victorian necklace from approximately ca1880. The necklace is comprised of 43 banded agate beads which are strung on a 15kt yellow gold chain. The beads are solid black in color and all have a similar vertical white and brown band running through them. Alternating with every 2 beads is a single tear drop shaped agate stone which also hangs from the chain. The 21 agate tear drops, which graduate slightly in length, are topped with a 15kt yellow gold cap that is enameled in black and white. They are solid black and have a complementing horizontal white and brown band running through the bottom of the drop. The necklace is completed at both ends with a single gold bead that is black and white enameled and attaches to the clasp. The clasp of the necklace is a large gold hook style and also has a removable expander chain that allows you to wear the piece 15" - 20" long. The necklace comes with the original custom made leather and blue velvet box. It's a simply marvelous necklace that would be great piece worn for a special occasion!
Measurements: The necklace measures approximately 15" long and can be expanded up to 20" long. The agate beads have a diameter of 6 1/2mm each. The tear drop shaped agate pieces range in size from 1 1/4" long and 3/8" at the widest point being the smallest to 1 1/2" long and 3/8" at the widest point being the largest.
Condition: The overall condition of the necklace is excellent. There is no apparent damage to the agate beads or tear drops. There are a few very minor chips to the enameling however they are unnoticeable when worn. The clasp is secure and in good working condition.
