Victorian Large Sterling & French Paste Cross Pendant

SKU: 34235

French paste is a vintage jewelry term used to describe the practice of using faceted cut glass, cut in the shape of a real gemstone, instead of using gems. This process, which was developed in the 1700's, created the look of a sparkling gemstone or diamond but cost much less than real stones.

An outstanding French paste cross pendant from the Victorian (ca1880) era! This beautiful piece is particularly large in size and adorns 14 sparkling open back French paste stones which are set in sterling silver. Each faceted stone is held within a belcher setting and sparkles beautifully. The pendant hangs from a simple jump ring, allowing it to be hung from a complimentary chain. A very special piece, this lovely pendant looks wonderful when worn and would make a marvelous addition to any collection!

Measurements: The cross hangs 3 1/8" long, is approximately 2 1/4" at its widest, and has a depth of 1/4".

Condition: The overall condition of this piece is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the sterling setting or to the paste stones, all of which are intact.
