Margot van Voorhies Carr, professionally known as Margot de Taxco, was a major contributor to the success of Taxco silver. Margot first came to Mexico in 1937 and soon thereafter met and married Don Antonio Castillo of Los Castillo (another well know Mexican silver jewelry artist). During her time with him, he encouraged her to translate her designs from paper to three-dimensional forms in silver. Many early designs of Los Castillo bear the obvious contributions of Margot de Taxco. After divorcing Antonio, Margot went out on her own with a business card that read, “As the stars are to the Night, So are Jewels to the Woman”.  Margot is most famous for her works in enamels on silver and her devotion to Art Deco, Mayan and Japanese-inspired motifs. Her clients at the time included such Hollywood celebrities as John Wayne and Lana Turner and her vintage silver pieces and stunning enamel work have become highly collectable today.

This beautiful pin is a fine example of Margot de Taxco. A sterling silver and enamel "kissing fish" from the 1950's! The vibrant turquoise enamel in this piece is reminiscent of the beautiful blue waters of Mexico. The graceful fins and tail are inlaid in the same rich turquoise enamel that matches the round body of the fish. Inlaid silver accents add to the beauty of this delightful pin. The eye is round, black enamel and sterling. On the back of the pin are several markings: MARGOT DE TAXCO, and the circular stamping HECHO EN MEXICO which surround the number "16" in the center. The number '873" is also stamped below the other markings. A fun, charming piece for any Margot de Taxco collector.

Measurements: The pin measures approximately 2" at the longest point and 1 1/2" at the widest point.

Condition: The overall condition of the pin is excellent. The pin back has a safety clasp and is very secure and there aren't  any apparent chips in the enamel. There appears to be a "blemish" or a slight discoloration in a very small part of the enamel, perhaps where the enameling process did not take, however this does not detract from the beauty of the pin or the vibrant color.
