Bakelite is a resin material that was produced in the early 1900's and was the first plastic substance made of synthetic components. Initially used for its electrically non conductive and heat resistant properties in radio and telephone castings, the material was also used in other products such as kids' toys, kitchenware and jewelry. Typically made of bold, beautiful colors, Bakelite has become very collectible over recent years and is appreciated amongst many.

A fantastic vintage Mexican sterling and Bakelite bracelet from the 1980's! This wide hinged bangle has a wonderful, bold look and is made of sterling silver. Inlaid in the front of the piece are 3 circles of gorgeous Bakelite, with deep hues of brown, red, and orange. The sterling bracelet is hinged and clasps on the side and graduates in width and thickness. There is a safety clasp on the side and the inside is stamped "TP-04”, “MEXICO”, and “925”. This bracelet would rest nicely on an average size wrist and makes a bold statement when worn!

Measurement: The width of the bracelet graduates in size measuring 1" at the widest and 5/8" at the thinnest and graduates in depth ranging from slightly less than 1/4" to slightly less than 1/2". The inside opening (where your wrist would rest) measures approximately 2 1/8" wide and 2 1/4" tall.

Condition: The overall condition of this bracelet is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the sterling or to any of the inlaid circles of Bakelite. The clasp is snug and secure and the hinge in good working condition.
