Victorian Sterling Silver Horseshoe Locket w/ Enameling
A gorgeous sterling locket from the Victorian (ca1880) era! This beautiful and unusual locket is in the shape of a horseshoe and made of sterling silver. Of English origin, the face of the locket is adorned with a wonderful equestrian inspired enameled image of a riding crop, horseshoe, horn, and a jockey hat in the center. Surrounding the center image and bordering the locket is a larger enameled horseshoe. The locket opens to reveal a place for your favorite photo. A small ring attached to the top connects to a larger sterling ring. On the back of the locket are 4 hallmarks: the letters "TW", a lion, an anchor and another makers mark that looks to be the shape of the letter "i". There also appears to be a small hallmark on the sterling ring bail. This beautiful locket would make a wonderful addition to any collection and is a must for the equestrian lover!
Measurements: The locket measures a little less than 1 1/2" at the tallest point, 1 1/8" at the widest and is 1/4" thick. The bail has a diameter of 1/4".
Condition: The overall condition of the locket is great. There is minor damage to the enameled design and a good amount of surface scratches in the silver which is not unusual for a piece from this time period. The locket closes easily and securely.
