Retro Heavy Carved Bird Motif Bakelite Bracelet

SKU: 36515

Bakelite is a resin material that was produced in the early 1900's and was the first plastic substance made of synthetic components. Initially used for its electrically non-conductive and heat resistant properties in radio and telephone castings, the material was also used in other products such as kids' toys, kitchenware and jewelry. Typically made of bright, beautiful colors, Bakelite has become very collectible over recent years and is appreciated amongst many.

A fabulous Bakelite bracelet from the Retro (ca1940) era! This piece, which is made of butterscotch yellow Bakelite, has a textured painted surface which carries around the entire width of the bracelet, resembling the bark from a tree trunk. A large round cutout plaque rests on the front which has a wood bark frame and a hand carved image of a bird resting upon a tree branch carved into the center. The bracelet is heavily carved and fairly wide and the design forms a beautiful, textured and 3-dimensional look. The "clamper" style bracelet has what looks to be the original hinge and clamps on the side. It's a fantastic bracelet and would make a gorgeous addition to any Bakelite collection!

Measurements: The wrist opening of the bracelet measures approximately 2 3/8" wide and 1 7/8" tall. The band graduates in width from 7/8" wide to 2" wide.

Condition: The overall condition of the bracelet is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the Bakelite or painted accents and the hinge is secure and in good working condition.
