Victorian 15k Bloodstone Signet Ring

SKU: 46538

$1,495
The opposite of a cameo, an intaglio is created by carving below the surface to produce an image in relief with the purpose of pressing into sealing wax.

A fantastic intaglio ring from the Victorian (ca1880) era! This wonderful English ring is made of 15kt yellow gold and features a round bezel set bloodstone intaglio, which has a detailed family crest carved into the center. The intaglio shows a shield inscribed with an winged Caduceus, the symbol of the Roman god Mercury, a sword, the rod of Asclepius, the symbol of the Roman god of medicine, and two animal heads near the top. Resting atop the shield is a knights helm surrounded by greenery. The agate has a dark black or brown color with splotches of vibrant red, creating a stark and striking look within the yellow gold mounting. The shoulders and band of the ring are very wide, and the shank is stamped "W.S 22.8.47". A fabulous intaglio ring, it would look wonderful worn by a man or woman and would make an incredible addition to any Victorian collection!

Measurements: The ring has a finger size of a generous size 10.75 but could easily be resized. The bloodstone intaglio has a diameter of slightly more than 1/2".

Condition: The overall condition of the ring is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold setting or carved bloodstone intaglio, which is intact.
