A fabulous and unusual heart-shaped locket from the Victorian (ca1880) era! This large piece is made of gilded silver and adorns an unusual and wonderful design. The front and back display an etched design that resembles wood grain. A simple image of two engraved flowers rest on the front of the piece, which are embellished with 6 emeralds, 2 sapphires and 3 rubies. The locket opens to reveal an interesting and very unusual detail: a small image that flips up and down. The image resembles a candleholder with 6 spaces at the top and bottom. The original mirror still rests within the interior of the piece. A large bail is attached the top of the locket, perfect for attaching to a favorite chain. A wonderful and unusual piece, this locket would make a fabulous addition to any collection!
Measurements: The locket measures approximately 2 1/8" at the tallest point, 2" at the widest point and 1/4" thick. The bail measures a little more than 1/4" tall and 1/8" at the widest point.
Condition: The overall condition of the locket is excellent. There is no apparent damage to the silver and the locket closes easily and securely. The inside image moves easily and stays securely flat when closed. Besides normal surface wear there is no apparent damage to any of the stones. The gilted surface could be plated again if desired to refresh piece to look like the original color which appears on the inside.
