During the French Revolution, beginning with the storming of the Bastille in 1789 and ending in 1799 with the rise of Napoleon, growing populist outrage at the treatment of the so-called "Third Estate", comprised of the middle and lower class, by the royal family and upper Estates of the clergy and nobility boiled over into demands of constitutional reform and popular assembly. By 1793, the radical Jacobin faction seized control of the revolutionary movement and began the "Reign of Terror", a period in which thousands of royalist supporters of the crown were executed by guillotine. During the revolution, some royalists, eager to show loyalty to their King, used jewelry as a way to subtly show their support for their monarchs, often detailed with portraits and/or the  fleur-de-lis, the symbol of the royal family.

A beautiful and historical French Revolution royalist ring from the Georgian era (ca1790)! This wonderful French made ring is crafted in 18kt yellow gold with an enameled navette centerpiece. It features a beautifully enameled French flag wreathed by a white banner reading "Je Te Resterai Fidele", meaning "I Will Remain Faithful to You". A beautiful split gold band frames the ring at either side, complete with an elegant fleur-de-lis decorating the ring's shoulders. A small French hallmark can be found on the outside of the band in the back. A wonderful and enchanting piece of history, it looks simply stunning when worn and would make a magnificent addition to any collection!

Measurements: The ring has a finger size of 7, but could be slightly re-sized. The enameled centerpiece measures 3/4" tall and 3/8" wide.

Condition: The overall condition of the ring is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold setting or enameling.
