Victorian Sterling Silver Raised Bird & Butterfly Locket
A fabulous sterling silver locket from the Victorian (ca1880) era! The wonderful piece is made of sterling silver and carries a gorgeous etched design on the front. Oval in shape, the locket is particularly large in size. In the center of the piece are two raised, silver birds perched on branches along with a fluttering butterfly. Etched in the background are several plants and leaves which complete the image beautifully. The locket is framed by a scalloped edge and the piece opens to reveal a space for your favorite photograph. The locket hangs from a sterling, fluted bail which is perfect for hanging from a simple sterling chain. It is a wonderful example of Victorian artistry and would make a great addition to any collection!
Measurements: The locket hangs approximately 2 1/4" long, is 1 1/2" wide and 1/4" at the thickest point.
Condition: The overall condition of the locket is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no serious damage to the silver and the locket closes easily and stays securely closed. There is some normal surface wear to the silver on the back of the locket, which is not unusual for a Victorian piece.
