Federico Jimenez was born in Oaxaca, Mexico in 1941 in a Mixtec Indian Community, where he went on to receive a degree in science and art. He came to the United States in 1967 to study jewelry making and design, and in 1970 he fell in love with the American Indian Culture during a trip to the Southwest. He admired the Indian craftsmanship and technique so much that he was inspired to start a collection of Folk Art. He opened a successful gallery in Santa Monica, CA specializing in Antiques and Collectibles, including Folk Art from Mexico, Latin America, and the Southwest. After 25 years of business, he donated his gallery collection to a museum in Mexico, and he now lives in Venice CA, where he continues to design his line of jewelry.

An absolutely fantastic and bold Estate American Indian necklace by Federico Jimenez! This unusual, handset piece is very large in size and looks exquisite on. The necklace is made of sterling silver and comprised of a 24 links set with natural turquoise stones. The turquoise graduates in size, with the largest resting in the center and most are teardrop or oval in shape. The natural stones vary slightly in complimentary color, with hues of yellow, brown, white, blue, and green. The large links alternate with simple sterling rings and at the back is a sterling push clasp. The underside of the center link is stamped "STERLING" along with the signature "FJ" hallmark. The necklace rests right below the collar of your neck, forming a wide collar necklace. It's an absolutely striking piece and would make a fabulous addition to any collection!

Measurements: The necklace measures approximately 20" in length. The largest turquoise link measures 1 1/8" wide, 1 7/8" tall and has a depth of 1/4" and the smallest link measures 3/4" wide, 1/2" tall and " in depth.

Condition: The overall condition necklace is excellent. Besides normal surface wear there is no apparent damage to the sterling setting or to any of the turquoise stones. The clasp is secure and in good working condition.
