Federico Jimenez was born in Oaxaca, Mexico in 1941 in a Mixtec Indian Community, where he went on to receive a degree in science and art. He came to the United States in 1967 to study jewelry making and design, and in 1970 he fell in love with the American Indian Culture during a trip to the Southwest. He admired the Indian craftsmanship and technique so much that he was inspired to start a collection of Folk Art. He opened a successful gallery in Santa Monica, CA specializing in Antiques and Collectibles, including Folk Art from Mexico, Latin America, and the Southwest. After 25 years of business, he donated his gallery collection to a museum in Mexico, and he now lives in Venice CA, where he continues to design his line of jewelry.
