Art Deco Sterling Silver Pill Box Locket
A wonderful sterling locket from the Art Deco (ca1920) era! This lovely and unusual piece is made of sterling silver and depicts a rectangular shaped pill box, which hangs from a fluted bail to be worn as a unique locket. The outside of the locket is engraved with textured rows of vertical lines, with a single, smooth rectangle resting in the center, perfect for engraving your own initials if desired. A detailed etched border runs all the way around the perimeter of the piece, completing the design. The locket is hinged and opens to reveal an empty compartment inside, which originally may have been used as a pillbox, but could also hold a photograph or small object inside. The box swings freely from the large fluted bail at the top, which is wide enough to to accommodate a large or small chain. An interesting and attractive Deco piece, it makes a unique pendant and would look fabulous worn everyday!
Measurements: The locket hangs approximately 2" long, is 3/4" wide and 1/4" thick.
Condition: The overall condition of the locket is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the silver setting and the locket opens easily and closes securely. The bail is secure and in good working condition.
