Product Details

Bakelite is a resin material that was produced in the early 1900's and was the first plastic substance made of synthetic components. Initially used for its electrically non-conductive and heat resistant properties in radio and telephone castings, the material was also used in other products such as children's toys, kitchenware and jewelry. Typically made of bright, beautiful colors, Bakelite has become very collectible over recent years and is appreciated among many vintage jewelry lovers worldwide.

A fantastic strand of faceted Bakelite beads from the late Art Deco (ca1930) era! This stunning necklace is comprised of 54 graduated beads, forming a long, striking design. Strung on red string, the piece is hand knotted, and slips on and off easily without a clasp. The color of the Bakelite is absolutely magnificent and has a wonderful, translucent deep cherry red color. The beads vary in size from small to large, and the necklace is long in length and makes a true statement when worn. It would be a perfect addition to any collection!

Measurements: The largest bead, which is in the center of the strand, measures approximately 1" wide and 3/4" thick and the smallest measures 1/2" wide and 5/16" thick. The overall length of the necklace is 36".

Condition: The overall condition of this necklace is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage or chips to the amber and the stringing is in fine condition.
