Black opals are among the most rare and valuable of all natural opal varieties. Unlike their common opal counterparts, they have a dark canvas and radiate brilliant flashes of colors due to their subtle iron oxide and carbon properties. Although a portion of the world's opals are mined in Ethiopa, most originate in Australia (particularly from a region known as "Lightening Ridge") and the opal has henceforth been named Australia's national stone. Historically, opals were believed to bring good luck when given as a gift. In the modern day, they continue to be adored worldwide and are one of the most desirable stones used in fine jewelry!

A simply exquisite and unusual opal and diamond ring from the Art Deco (ca1920s) era! This fabulous platinum piece is adorned with a single oval-shaped black opal cabochon at its center. The prong set stone weighs 6.81ct and displays simply magnificent and unusual color, exhibiting dark hunter green, blue, red, orange and yellow hues. The opal is framed on either side by fourteen old European Cut diamonds, along with two Baguette Cut diamonds. The sparkling stones catch the light with every turn and create a fantastic Art Deco design on each shoulder that features a delicate cutout at the center. Finishing the design is a smoothly polished band that graduates slightly towards the back, and stamped inside of the shank is a “PLATINUM” purity mark. Accompanying the ring is a Gemstone Report issued in April 2018 by GIA (Gemological Institute of America), which reflects the above stated color and weight of the opal stone. The unique centerpiece is absolutely stunning and the ring would make a fabulous statement piece when worn!

Measurements: The ring has a finger size of 6.25 but could easily be resized. The oval shaped opal stone measures approximately 12mm wide, 15.5mm tall, and has a depth of at 6mm.

Condition: The overall condition of the ring is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the platinum setting. The opal stone and the diamonds are all intact and securely set.
