Ostby & Barton Jewelry Co. was founded in 1879, a partnership between Nathan B. Barton and Engelhart Cornelius Ostby. Despite humble beginnings, the company eventually thrived, becoming one of the world's largest ring manufacturers.

Ostby received his training at the Royal School of Art in Norway to become a jeweler, later apprenticing in Oslo before emigrating to the United States. Tragically, during one of his routine trips to Europe with his daughter to further his jewelry knowledge, he perished on the voyage of the infamous Titanic in 1912, at the age of 64. Despite this devastating loss for his 22-year-old daughter Helene, who survived the voyage, Ostby & Barton continued to thrive after his untimely death. Helene devoted herself entirely to the family business, which produced a variety of fine jewelry goods up through the 1950s. Even in the modern day, Ostby & Barton remains a desirable name among collectors and lovers of vintage jewelry!

This beautiful diamond engagement ring from the Art Deco (ca1920) era is a signed piece by Ostby & BartonThe classic solitaire design is crafted in 10kt rose gold and adorns a stunning Transitional Brilliant Cut diamond at the center of a simple band. The gorgeous stone has an exact weight 0.91ct and exhibits I color and SI2 clarity, sparkling beautifully in the light with every turn. The diamond rests in a raised prong setting embellished with delicate filigree wirework, which is visible from the sides and perfectly complimented by the smoothly polished band. Stamped inside of the stamp is a "10K" gold purity mark in between the signature "OB" maker's beside their Maltese cross hallmark. The ring was appraised in November 2019 by an independent and accredited GIA-certified gemologist and has a stated retail replacement value of $4,800.00. A lovely and classic look by a renowned jewelry company, it has timeless beauty and would make a unique and special engagement ring!

Measurements: The ring has a finger size scant 6, but could be re-sized. The diamond rests approximately 1/4" above the finger when worn. The band measures 1mm wide at the back.

Condition: The overall condition of the ring is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold setting. The diamond is intact and securely set.
