Art Nouveau 14kt Carved Moonstone "Man in the Moon" Sunburst Ring
A wonderful and artistic cameo ring from the Art Nouveau (ca1890) era! This whimsical piece is crafted in 14kt yellow gold, and features an alluring carved moonstone at the center. The design portrays a recognizable "Man in the Moon" face, which has intricately carved facial features and a realistic 3-dimensional look. When turned in the light, the moonstone exhibits a lovely translucence and iridescent blue flash. The foil-backing behind the stone accentuates the color flash even further, providing subtle shades of pink and violet that emerge from below. Surrounding the moonstone is a border of gold "sun rays" that fan out from the center, each lined with lightly etched accents. The combination of the sunburst rays paired with the central "Man in the Moon" face gives the piece a wonderful "Sun and Moon" motif! Completing the design is a smooth gold band with split pillar-style shoulders. A very special piece, it would make a unique addition to any jewelry collection!
Measurements: The ring has a finger size 6.5, but could be easily resized. The centerpiece measures 5/8" in diameter, and rests about 1/4" above the finger. The gold band measures 2mm wide at the back.
Condition: The overall condition of the piece is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold setting. The carved moonstone is intact and securely set, and is free of any noticeable chips or surface scratches.
